Learn how to work with data

Tapix provides you with information you can use for advanced analytics for internal purposes or your users.

Categorization

Tapix provides 25 categories and 450+ tags. Both the category and tags can be found in the response of shop's endpoint /shops/{id} response.

Categories serve for a rough categorization of goods or services that were purchased. Ideally the use of categorization lies in PFM (Personal Financial Management) when a bank wants to divide clients’ purchases into several groups to show them a meaningful pie chart, indicating in which categories clients have spent their money.

On the other hand, the tags have great use for analytics as they give you a deeper insight into what lies behind the purchase. Is your target to promote your travel insurance to clients who plan to travel abroad? The category Travel would not be really helpful as it contains both local transport such as Uber and airlines such as British Airways. However, you can opt to focus on tags such as Long Distance Transport or Air Tickets and your problem will be solved.

Do you want to find which clients are making purchases online? There is a Shopping Online tag to tell you. There are even such specialized tags such as Sustainable or Zero Waste so you can give Kudos for such purchases in the Internet / Mobile Banking; Subscription to remind your client to what services she is subscribed, making her aware that she does not need to pay for them anymore; or Cryptocurrencies to find tech-savvy clients that are willing to invest their money.

Unlike categories that are fixed, the tags are evolving over time and once Tapix encounters any new type of goods or services, we create an appropriate tag. One example of this is from the electric scooters service, Lime, with tags Electric Scooters and Micro Mobility, which Tapix added once this service was born.

Regarding tags and categories, you can face a few scenarios, such as the following:

  • You may get the category and tags but no other data (address etc.). Typically, Tapix may not know from which gas station the payment comes, but we may still know it is a gas station and thus categorize it properly.
  • You may get the category, but no tags. This means Tapix doesn't have enough information for deeper categorization at the moment. Watch out for invalidations due to data updates.
  • You may not receive any of this data. This means Tapix doesn't have any information about the shop or merchant at the moment. Keep your eye on invalidations due to data updates in the future.

Custom categorization

Dateio also offers a custom categorization and maintenance to meet your business needs. This can be useful if you want to display a different set of categories in your PFM - e.g. you want to split Local and Long Distance Travel into two categories, merge some categories, create a new category, or rename an existing one. In case you order a custom categorization, the custom category will be displayed in the shop's endpoint /shops/{id} with the name customCategory.

Also, Tapix can prepare custom tags to match your analytical needs. The custom tags are part of the shop's endpoint as well.

Geolocation

Tapix also provides geolocational data with a majority of shops. In most cases the location contains the GPS coordinates, street name with house number, ZIP code, city, and country name. In some countries, Tapix also provides other structured identifiers such as county name, region name, state name, or cadastral ID.
